Concert ‘Te Audire. Symphony for a painting'
Friday 6 December 2024
On 6 December 2024, the Museo Diocesano Tridentino offers a unique experience combining art, history and music.
The evening will begin at 8 p.m. with a guided tour of the museum, during which participants will have the opportunity to discover the works related to the Council of Trent and immerse themselves in the historical and iconographic context of the event. Among the exhibits will be the famous painting by Elia Naurizio depicting the assembly of the Council, which inspired the symphony by Carlo La Manna.
At the end of the visit, we will go to the Trento Philharmonic where, at 9 p.m., there will be a concert of new classical music created for the museum and inspired by Naurizio's painting. The symphony translates the emotions and tensions of the visual work into musical notes, offering an exciting journey through art, history and music for a new rediscovery of the Council of Trent.

Elia Naurizio, General Congregation of the Council of Trent, 1633
The story behind the symphony
The inspiration for this composition comes from Elia Naurizio's 1633 painting 'General Congregation of the Council of Trent', a visual work full of meaning and emotional tension. La Manna spent almost half a year in front of the painting, absorbing every nuance in order to translate the expressions, emotions and gestures of the protagonists into music.
The symphony is in four movements:
- Vulgata, the first movement, explores the spiritual dimension at the heart of the work.
- Penitence, the second movement, focuses on the monks depicted on the right, each with their own distinctive expression.
- Vocation, the third movement, gives voice to the horizontal row of monks at the bottom of the painting.
- Heresy, the final movement, is inspired by the representatives of power on the left, adding further layers of depth to the composition.
The concert
This great concert will feature the Euthaleia Orchestra conducted by Maestro Sebastiano de Salvo, accompanied by the Concilium Choir and the K.J. Feininger Vocal Group. Special guests will be Giordano Angeli on soprano saxophone and Corrado Bungaro on nyckelharpa. The event is part of the "Trento, Città del Natale" ("Trento, City of Christmas") programme and is therefore an unmissable appointment for those who wish to have a profound cultural experience during the Christmas holidays.
